WEEK SIX

Week six of our school term is met with our continuation of expectations that students Sign-In and engage fully throughout the tenure of each class associated with his/her schedule. As a reminder, I want to encourage parents to frequently monitor their child's attendance, engagement and progress.

As a means of collecting baseline data to monitor our students growth across content areas, our students will complete MAPS assessments over the next several days. This data allows us to adjust and modify the support given to our students to ensure their success. Moreover, we utilize a program that serves as a medium for increasing students' literacy aptitudes. ACHIEVE3000© is a web-based program that provides a platform for our students to read articles daily which improves and challenges their reading levels. The students are assigned Lexile© scores based on their reading levels. They are able to monitor and continuously improve the same. Literacy skills are foundational to students' success across content areas. We encourage parents to talk to their children about the importance of reading and literacy.

Magnet Applications will open October 1, 2020. The Deadline to submit an on-time application is December 4, 2020.

WEEK FOUR

As we enter into our FOURTH week of Virtual/Digital learning, I want to thank our teachers, students and parents for your relentless support. TOGETHER, WE ACHIEVE MORE! We are pleased to announce that our students' NEW computers have arrived. We want to place these devices in the hands of the students/parents on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. In order to make this 5 minute process flow, we have devised a schedule that MUST be adhered to by ALL parties in order to respect the time of each other. Our distribution plan is a drive-through model. We have three teams in place to serve you as you enter the campus. You will not have to leave your vehicle during the drive-through. Parents are required to sign the Laptop User Agreement document in order to receive the devices. If you are unable to print the document, we will provide you with a copy as you enter the campus. If students are currently using a "loaner" computer, it must be turned in during this time in order to receive the new device. Please assist us with this process by doing the following:

  1. Arrive during the timeframe assigned to you based on the first initial of your last name (See Below).
  2. Have the paperwork completed with the parent's signature.
  3. Please wear a mask to protect yourself and anyone who you may come into contact with during this process.
  4. Remain in your vehicles.
  5. Follow the directions of the staff members who are supporting the process.

These devices are critical to your child's success. After Wednesday, students are expected to utilize these devices (ONLY) to connect to their GoogleClassroom© and Zoom©.
This is the only time allotted for this process. Please make arrangement to support your child receiving their device.

Supporting Onsite Learning for Virtual Education (SOLVE)

Clayton County Public Schools is pleased to share information about the Supporting Onsite Learning for Virtual Education (SOLVE) program. The SOLVE program (from Bright from the Start) is offering support to families with students enrolled in a Georgia public school system that is providing instructional services solely through a virtual learning model. Scholarships support working families with children ages 5-12 (Kindergarten through Sixth Grades) by paying for care, supervision, and support during the school day while students are engaged in virtual learning. Please use the
SOLVE link to learn more about the program.

WEEK THREE
MONITORING YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS

As we enter into our third week of Virtual/Digital learning, I want to thank our teachers, students and parents for your fervent engagement. Personal responsibility is a key to success in this learning culture. Students must wake up each day ready to learn and with a determination to persevere through these unprecedented times. Parents, please join us in our expectations of appropriate and deliberate engagement. To these ends:

  • Students must log-in to their classes early.
  • Students must engage throughout the entire lesson.
  • Students must ask questions and investigate solutions for their learning mastery.
  • Parents must monitor their child’s progress at least twice a week.
  • Parents must communicate with teachers for support and information pertaining to their child’s success and engagement.
  • Our website is full of information and contact protocols to support each of you.

Have Your Best Week!

WEEK TWO

*PARENT AND STUDENT WEEK ONE REFLECTIONS

As we reflect on the previous week, we want to thank our parents and students for engaging and adjusting as needed. Most of our areas of concern for "Week One" revolved around technology, access and password resets. We continue to keep our Technology Assistance Request link live. This link provides direct access to our Media Services and Tech Support Staff. In an effort to secure the privacy and safety of our students and staff, CCPS switched the platform for direct video instruction. The new platform, ZOOM©, provides for a more safe and secured instructional session. This platform is designed for all participants to engage with clear protocols:

  • Students and Parents must be very clear as to the specific times for the Daily Schedule.
  • Students must be on time for each class. Students have a five (5) minute window to sign-in to the class session. Classes will be "Locked" after the first five minutes. No one will be able to enter the session after that time. If your child is not in the session on-time, they will be marked absent for the class. Those students must contact their counselor via email immediately. Use this link to email Faculty and Staff.
  • Once students enter the Zoom© classroom, they must enter their name in the following format: (Last Name, First Name)

Once students complete the sign-in rituals, they must continuously adhere to the following expectations:

1.Be Prepared for each instructional lesson.
2.Be
Respectful to your peers and your teachers.
3.Be
Engaged to ensure that you are maximizing your opportunities to learn.
4.If the teacher engages students in a live video session, ALL students'
CAMERAS MUST BE ON AT ALL TIMES.
5.Students are to
never share passwords, links and other information related to logging into classes.
6.Students are not permitted to have
"private chats" in the platform.
7.It is a
violation of students' privacy for screen shots to be taken in Zoom© classroom sessions.
8."Cyber Bullying" of any level or nature will result in immediate removal from the network, suspension and/or referral to the office of Student Discipline.

*Additional CCPS information regarding student and family engagement can be accessed in the
STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK 2020-2021.
